Also by eating more fruit and vegetables there is normally a natural reduction in the volume of calories consumed, and in many cases just by cutting back on the number of calories, thereby reducing weight, there is knock on reduction in the high blood pressure.

As well as increasing the amount of fiber you have in your diet you should also increase the amount of potassium as well. Fruit that is rich in potassium are bananas.

Why not place a few in a liquidizer with some freshly squeezed orange juice and some raspberries and you will have a really great tasting drink that is also helping to lower blood pressure, as it contains high amounts of fiber, potassium and all other beneficial nutrients.

This does not mean that the medication prescribed by the doctor should not be taken – Of course it should. But it means that if a good diet is followed then the blood pressure can be regulated much faster, and the effects can last for longer.

A high blood pressure, fruits and vegetables diet, with the inclusion of lean low fat meats, can mean that not only is the blood pressure reduced, but also those that are overweight usually find they lose weight as well. Discuss any changes in diet before you make them with your doctor.

Help answer the question about high blood pressure

How high can blood pressure get before a heart attack?
I spoke with my mom today. She's in her late 60s and has had high blood pressure for years. She still works regularly but is staying home this week to see if her blood pressure can be moderated after spiking to 236/145. (I'm not 100% sure about the second number–it may be a little off, but I am absolutely positive about the 236.)

She was given a new medication, as well as some anxiety medicine. She's always had high blood pressure, but the 236 even scared her.

So, how close is someone to a heart attack (or some other major body malfunction) when blood pressure goes that high? I remember my mom's mom had high blood pressure and died from a massive heart attack at age 70 about twenty years ago.

  1. Yes you will. You did not state how old you are. As with any type of diet change make sure you have blood work and certain tests done to make sure you are getting what you need. Also make sure you take a multi vitamin as well as B-complex to make sure you are getting the essential vitamins you will need. Make sure your doctor is aware you are making a change and you should have no problems.
    It will take your body awhile to adjust to the change so give it time. And do not forget the acidophilus!

    im 20 years old and i sprianed my ankle and the ER dr took my BP and it was 153/103 im on antidepressants bipolar meds and xanax AND im on depo and i have a 1 yr old lil boy.. im 5′3 and weigh about 200 im freaking out… im currently working on loosing weight but my ankle has delayed my excercize… is loosing weight the only thing i should do????? or is there some other things i can do???? IM SCARED!!!

    gmine’s usually about 130 -150 /80 – 100… bpm between 70-120…. (and those are the actual readings, I haven’t got it wrong).

    But I don’t worry too much about it… if something happens it happens, it’s called life.

    My blood pressure has been roughly 150/100 for weeks. Today it went up to 174/126. How dangerous is that?
